CLIENT: SIMON & SCHUSTER, 1997
At the height of Britpop,
Oasis - Definitely, the band's official biography, completely
sold out its first print run in 1996. Simon & Schuster, the book's
publisher, weren't happy with the cover design and commissioned me to
come up with an alternative. I favoured using a shot of Liam and Noel
Gallagher taken by Jill Furmanovsky, Oasis' preferred photographer
from their first major UK tour through to their headline concerts at
Knebworth in 1996.
Noel said of her approach,
"Jill Furmanovsky captured within two hours what other photographers
had failed to do in two years". The photograph chosen for the front
cover concentrated on the Gallagher brothers, leaving out the rest of
the band (above, left to right) - Tony McCarroll (drums), Paul
'Bonehead' Arthurs (bass) and Paul McGuigan (guitar).
