CLIENT: OLD GOLD MEDIA, 2025-
Mike Kenwood and myself,
co-authors of Sweeney! The Official Companion (2002, second
edition 2012), were commissioned by the home media company Old Gold
Media to write information booklets for Series 2, 3 and 4 of their
50th Anniversary Blu-ray releases of The Sweeney. Momentously,
it was the first time the entire series had been released in High
Definition.
Drawing on years of
research and interviews with actors, writers and directors, we
recorded audio commentaries for standout episodes from each of The
Sweeney's four series - 'Jackpot', 'Chalk and Cheese', 'Taste of
Fear' and 'Hearts and Minds', the 1978 episode that co-starred comedy
legends Morecambe and Wise (above right). The commentaries were
originally recorded for ViaVision's Australian release The Sweeney
- The Ultimate Collection, in 2022. Their inclusion on the Old
Gold Media Blu-ray sets marked the first time they were made available
in the UK.
