CLIENT: THE RESTORATION TRUST, 2021
A community group
established by the Restoration Trust in 2019, Dr Hills’ Casebook was
designed to allow participants, all of whom had mental health issues,
to assist in the creation of a play based on the patients in the
Norfolk County Asylum in the nineteenth century. Each member of the
group was given the case history of a real patient to build a
character from, which would subsequently be used in the stage
production of Dr Hills’ Casebook.
When the play was staged at The Cut arts centre in Suffolk by the Up
Shoot Theatre Company, I was commissioned to provide photography of
the rehearsals. My shots varied between colour and stark black and
white, emphasising the emotional extremes of a very powerful play. The
resulting pictures were used to publicise the production, and also
appeared in the book Dr Hills’ Casebook – The Anthology.
