CLIENT: PANINI, 2016
For this Special Edition
of Doctor Who Magazine I was commissioned to interview
the visual effects designer Mat Irvine. He was the public face of the
BBC Visual Effects Department in the 1970s and 1980s, appearing as a
presenter on a variety of programmes, as well as giving talks about
his work on Doctor Who, Blake’s 7 and many other
shows.
The brief was to put a
personality to the names seen on Doctor Who’s end credits. I
suggested a face-to-face visit so I could photograph Mat in his
workshop, which also houses, in mint condition, several of the models
he built, as well as the Doctor’s robot dog, K9. Two of my photographs
were used in the subsequent feature ‘Plastic Surgery’.
